Richard Gonzmart with Doug Federman at Richard's Father's Day Family Walk/Jog. The money is earmarked for Moffitt. According to the American Cancer Society, one man out of six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and one of 35 will die every year. Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in American men, second only to lung cancer.

W hen you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.

- Patanjali

This quote was a great motivator for me and still is. Using my experience as a runner and my desire to find a cure for cancer I created “Richard’s Run for Life” under the Gonzmart Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to find a cure for cancer. Creating Richard’s Run was a way to fulfill this goal of finding a cure.

Richard’s Run for Life 5K
Friday, Nov. 2, 2018

The Nov. 3, 2017 Richard’s Run for Life 5K was inspiring. Thank you for your support.

2,000 runners, walkers and diners stepped up and stepped out for this annual road race in Ybor City. Thanks to your help, we raised $100,000 for the University of South Florida’s Latino Scholarship Program. That was added to a previously announced personal matching check for $100,000 from Richard and Melanie Gonzmart.

100% of every dollar donated and raised benefits the Richard and Melanie Gonzmart Endowed Latino Scholarship at USF, which gives academically gifted but financially challenged students a chance for a college education. Next year Richard and Melanie will fund ten will fund 10 new four-year student scholarships, in addition to the eight scholarships already in place.

Next year’s race is Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, and will benefit the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Program for sarcoma research at Moffitt Cancer Center. See you there.

“Richard’s Run for Life” 5K Race is part of the Gonzmart Family Foundation — a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
